Is It Really Just Wintertime Blues?
I know it has been a few weeks but the last few for me have been filled with lots of work and activities and I am sure that yours have been as well. I know that we have been discussing organizing our homes so that we feel more in control of our lives but I wanted to take a break and focus on something really important this time of year.
We are heading into that time of year where the leaves start changing, we start to break out our cold weather clothes, we make our favorite soups and stews and for some of us we get the blues. Society has long accepted that cold weather means that we have to live with feelings of sadness and melancholy. I am choosing not to accept that anymore and you shouldn’t either.
The last few years more media focus has been on Seasonal Affective Disorder (often referred to as SAD) which is an actual mental health condition characterized by feelings of depression and sadness every year at the change of the seasons. To be honest the condition makes a lot of sense to me. There is less hours of sunshine, you leave for work when its still dark and return home when it is getting dark again, and you can’t get out and enjoy the outdoor activities of summer.
So what do we do about it? The next few days I am going to give you some tips on how to fight the wintertime blues. Take some time today and ask yourself if you often find yourself with the wintertime blues. The first step to fixing the problem is admitting that there is one. Let’s take this journey together and make this a happy Fall and Winter so we can step into Spring happier and healthier then we have ever been!
